Finishing Kick
As I finally start winding down on my Clash for a Cure charity army, I'm hit with that same problem I face with every project - anxiety mixed with relief.
As I'm putting the final highlights on the models, I start noticing little areas where paint has lightly rubbed off, or a dot of pink is hiding on gold, and it seems like it will never end. If Windows 7 is amazing for one feature, it's Sticky Notes. Every time I'm finishing up a project, I open up a new note and start noting things I need to fix as I go. "Touch up chainmail," "paint back of cloth," "finish 2 belt buckles" - little stuff that makes for a very boring end to a project.
The worst part, of course, is the wondering. If I caught 2 problems on a model... are there more? Is there something I completely overlooked because of the angles in which I held the model? Am I going to drop this thing at the very end, or rub some paint off when I'm painting the rim black? These things run through my mind because they've happened before, and I have worked really hard to churn out something nice with this project.
But overall, I feel incredibly relieved as I slowly delete items from my Sticky Note. Going from 30+ items to about 10 does a lot to extinguish the dread of not finishing the project on time. In fact, the reason this is one of my shorter posts is because there's a dangerously real chance that I'll actually finish my painting tonight, do my sealing tomorrow, and ship the army out by this weekend!
See you tomorrow!
