Ready to Be Back In Commission

As some of you know I've been dealing with a back injury that hasn't really let up for over a week now. On Friday I finally got around to adding dirt to, and sealing, some models I'd painted awhile ago. As I picked them up today and gave them a once over, I realized that it seemed like an eternity since I'd done any painting.

Of course that's not to say I've never gone more than a week without painting, because I've suffered from the same burnout as any other painter. But right now I want to paint, but the idea of leaning over without collapsing to the floor in paint seems so unattainable. I'm finally getting out of the brain fog that lasts several days any time I take a hydrocodone, which means I can at least get back to blogging with a bit of intelligence, but I can't wait till I'm back to 100%.

I still have my gaming table to finish. It's so close to being done! I just need to paint up the foam, seal it with a layer of glue, and then get some grass on it. After that I've got a buddy's Mountain King to work on while I wait for my charity piece to arrive in the mail so I can work on it. No more full armies this time around - I'm going to take one model I really like, the Khador Behemoth, and really do him up right. Lester Bursely, one of my favorite painters, did a tutorial on airbrushing inks with the Behemoth as his example. Needless to say I've found my inspiration!

Once that's said and done it's back to my ever-growing pile of work. I have a friend's Mountain King I've been wanting to paint as a "thank you" for letting our group use his house for awhile. I have a few more pieces I want to kidnap from friends to paint up, and after that it's back to commission work and my own pieces.

With our Warmachine league (hopefully) starting up soon I want to take my Skorne force, which has never seen the table, and chronicle my painting and playing with them. I don't know that I have the memory to do battle reports, but I can at least use some dramatic language to talk about my impending string of losses! Of course none of that can start until I finish hammering out the details on our league, so stay tuned for the continuing journey of getting those rules written up.

That's just a peak at my growing to-do list. It's been nice being able to read or play video games while I recover, but I'm really ready to get back to all my projects.

See you tomorrow!

Remember to follow me on Facebook! I'm doing a blog post every single day for 2013, and Facebook is a great way to stay up-to-date as well as take part in my monthly giveaways.

  1. I am really excited to hear about your journey with your Skorne force. I have yet to pick up a Hordes army (I also play Khador for warmachine) and I have seriously been contemplating Skorne. I love the idea of playing an army with all beast (well, almost all beast, gotta take the paingivers).

I know you were asking about giveaway ideas for this month. What about a small paint commission. Somewhere around the $10 mark?

    1. I'm really excited to run beast-heavy. I mean that's why I started Khador - I wanted to take big smashy things and smash people with them. I've been looking at the lists people build and I'm fairly close to fielding a few, including Rasheth's tier 4!

And I did a commission giveaway a few months ago for $25 or $30 with some success, so that's really not a bad idea. It's much better than the Xbox One that was suggested!

    2. I just thought of what you should do for this months giveaway! One thing that has always annoyed me when playing Warmachine is objectives that are just plain 40mm bases. What if you gave away some cool objective markers. You could customize the markers depending on which faction the winner played.

    3. Nice. I might save that for next month since I've actually been meaning to make some nifty flags and such for my group, so what a good excuse to get cracking on that!

  2. It would be fun to see you swing the Skorne bat. Although an Xbox one would be sweet to win I doubt that is budgeted. :) I thought I saw on Miniature Market that Hordes armies were getting faction dice sometime soon. That could be a good give away as well when it actually happens.
