What Do You Want?

With a giveaway (hopefully) coming up in about a week, I'm trying to figure out my giveaway prize. I thought I'd turn to the people looking to win something and ask what you think would make for a good giveaway prize.

I really enjoyed doing the free painted model. The only downside to that is that it's only appealing to a few. My xbox/ps3/etc was fairly popular, but it also seems the least inventive. So I'm looking for input - what are some things you think would motivate you to enter a giveaway? Is something broad like a gift card the most desirable? Do you like more relevant prizes like painted models or the book giveaway I just did?

Sound off anywhere. You can email me at Ray [at] RayofPaint [dot] com if you'd rather keep it personal, otherwise here and Facebook work as well. Seriously, give me ideas. I want to give you guys stuff you like!

See you tomorrow!

  1. I was a fan of the mini painting, but I can see that it would only appeal to a portion of your audience.

Dice are always good, as give aways. Maybe you could paint a custom blank die or set of dice for someone?

When I was content director for Obsidian Portal, we used to do giveaways with partners who produce other stuff. Maybe if you're in a blog network you can find someone to partner in on a give away?

  2. The gifts card will always appeal to the masses as the best option. The question is, are you trying to appeal to the masses? I personally don't think you should care if random IXXIISPAMBOTIIXXI gets another bunch of Microsoft points or not because that is not the target audience of your blog or what you are trying to produce as far as content goes. I could be wrong on your target audience though.

I would say that you are targeting wargamers maybe RPG game players and those that would play games in a comic book/game shop?

If that is correct then it would make more sense for your prizes to be a gaming figure up to a certain value, painted models, piece of terrain, or a set of dice. (BTW I love the dice idea!!) As you know I am a bit of a dice junky so my opinion on those are a bit jaded.

Overall the question comes down to who are you trying to reach and what would they be most interested in. Books are alright but they definitely have to be relevant to your specific group like a Horus Heresy Novel. I think that showed by fact that only 2 people cared to enter the prize to win the book.

Not that my opinion matters that deeply but those are my thoughts.

  3. GF9 game accessories are also very good options.
